Producing Maple Syrup

This conference is designed to offer education to potential producers, backyard hobby producers, and current maple producers in the tri-state region. The aim is to increase knowledge of maple syrup production as a viable non-timber forest product, to increase income from forestlands and assist producers with adoption of new technology etc. Spend the day with local maple syrup producers!  9:45 – 10:20 a.m  Beginner maple syrup – the basics by Eric Randall, Past President of NAMSC, NY Producer
 10:25 – 11:00 am  Managing your timber for sap production by Jesse Randall, ISU Extension Forester
 11:05 – 11:40 am  How maple sap moves in a maple tree by Eric Randall, Past President of NAMSC, NY Producer
 11:45 – 12:20 pm  Maple equipment (how to scale equipment to # taps, appropriate equipment for #of taps, and how to ensure appropriate room for expansion of operation by Joe Polak, Maple Hollow
 12:20 – 1:30 pm  Lunch (Turkey or Veg Lasagna) **** Preregistration required – See Below ****
 1:35 – 2:10 pm  Value Added Producer Grants, SARE Grants and other funding options for value added maple products by Shannon Hoyle, ISU Value Added Agriculture Program Specialist
 2:15 – 2:50 pm  Sap extraction options (tubing vs buckets) by Joe Polak, Maple Hollow

This is being offered at a reduced rate because of a Specialty Crop Block grant from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.

$10 on the day of the event

If you leave a message you must provide your name, phone number, number attending, and meal selection. Registrants eat first!

Directions:

North Menominee Road is 5 miles west of Galena and 7 miles east of East Dubuque on US 20.

Take N. Menominee Road north 5.2 miles (it becomes Co Rd ZZ in Wisconsin)

Turn right at stop sign onto Co Rd Z

Conference center and parking will be on left
