Woodland Prescribed Burn (CANCELLED)

  • April 09, 2022
  • 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
  • 5060 S. Blanding Rd, Hanover, IL

This message from Brad Petersburg:

CANCELLED!

The snow on the ground this morning looks rather pretty but it nixes the potential for a prescribed burn anytime this weekend.  The forecast looks better towards the end of next week.  However, I have plans for Easter weekend and suspect many of you do too.  So, we’ll try again sometime after Easter.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as I struggle to predict a day when the conditions will be suitable for the Woodland Prescribed Burn Field Day.

NIFA in conjunction with

  • the Woodland Wildlife Cooperative
  • the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation
  • the NISC

will be hosting a woodland prescribed burn to demonstrate to other woodland owners and the general public the benefits and procedures in a controlled burn in a forest setting.  Attendees can observe the process and learn about the preparation for such a practice.

  • The April 9th date of this Field Day is subject to change based upon weather and ground conditions.  On the morning of the Field Day, before driving to this event, please check the JDCF or NIFA website to see if it has been rescheduled (https://jdcf.org/ or http://nifatrees.org/).  These websites will be updated by 10 AM that morning to report whether the Field Day will be held as planned or rescheduled.  If necessary, you may also call Brad Petersburg of the WWC at 641-420-5851.
  • This is an outdoor event including a presentation and an optional short hike on uneven grass trails in the woods.  Visitors will be required to stay out of the designated burn area unless accompanied by a member of the burn team.
  • Exposer to smoke is a possibility.  Dress appropriately for the conditions, consider using insect repellent, and otherwise plan accordingly.  Bring a lawn chair if you wish to sit and watch the controlled burn from a distance.
  • No food, beverages, or port-a-potty available.

Approximate Schedule:
