Woodland Prescribed Burn Field Day – Saturday April 1, 1 PM

After numerous failed attempts at predicting the weather and scheduling this event, we are confident the weather and ground conditions will be good this Saturday. Although it is Easter Weekend, hopefully, many of you can attend... at least for the initial discussion and start of the burn.

 Date/Time:

 Location:

 Cosponsors:

 Program:

1 PM this Saturday, April 8, 2023

5060 S Blanding Rd, Hanover (2 miles south of Chestnut Mountain Resort)

Jake Pulfer, NISC Program Manager and an Illinois Certified Prescribed Burn Manager,

will describe the planning and preparation required for a safe and effective prescribed burn. Then, the NISC team will conduct the prescribed burn. Under supervision of a team member, visitors may be able to participate, if desired.

 Visitor Preparation:

o This is an outdoor event with unpredictable ground and weather conditions. Most of the

walking will be on grass trails in the woods ranging from flat to steep. Visitors will be required

to stay out of the designated burn area unless accompanied by a member of the burn team.

o Exposer to smoke is a possibility. Dress and otherwise prepare appropriately for the conditions.

Consider using insect repellent and sun block. Bring a lawn chair if you wish to sit and watch the

controlled burn from a distance.

o No food, beverages, or port-a-potty available.
